Grid-Tie PV Systems |
|||||||
A typical grid-tie PV system is a system that uses the utility grid as a storage medium instead of batteries, thereby significantly reducing the cost of the over-all system. The most common program for this is called net-metering. Using grid-connected PV power can have economic as well as environmental advantages. Where utility power is available, consumers can use a grid-connected PV system to supply most or all of the power they need and use utility-generated power at night, after a series of very cloudy days, or in the unlikely event of system malfunction.
